Currently based in the Netherlands, French baritone Anthony Bastos has performed regularly since 2020 in a multitude of stage experiences, ranging from opera to recital, through oratorio, contemporary music and other multidisciplinary shows.
His vocal career began at the Conservatory of Nancy in parallel to his undergraduate in Musicology, before continuing at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Christine Solhosse. Throughout these years of training, he will receive the advice of a multitude of teachers who have helped to forge his technique and musicality, including Célia Pierre-Gay, Benjamin Colin, Damien Guédon, Vincent Lièvre-Picard.
His past performances include the role of Bob, in The Old Maid and the Thief, by G.C. Menotti at the Turbulences festival in Molenbeek, as well as the role of Prodoscimo at the theater L’espace Magh in a show built around the figure of the stranger in Rossini's operas.
Among the things he particularly likes in his profession, there is also the joy of singing within large vocal ensembles. For example, the Chœur de Chambre de Namur with which he has been able to participate in many productions since November 2023.
He had the opportunity to participate in many masterclasses, with illustrious speakers such as Mirella Hagen, Sabrina Avantario or Michel Lehmann. Among the chefs under the direction of whom he worked, we can find Gergely Madaras, Julien Chauvin, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Giampaolo Bisanti.
His artistic career led him to sing in a multitude of prestigious places such as the Liège Philharmonic Hall, The Grand-Manège in Namur, the Opera Royal of Wallonie-Liège, the Museum of Musical Instruments in Brussels, the Horta House and even the Tuileries Garden in Paris for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, followed live by 17 million people.
Within his multiple activities, Anthony Bastos tries to enhance a spirit of community and inclusion. It is important to him to try to make classical music a place open to all and to fight against any form of exclusion or elitism; especially by trying to bring classical music to places that are not used to receiving it.
He greatly appreciates choir conducting and will do so any time the opportunity arises, and has been teaching music and singing for the last 3 years, through private lessons but also at Kalleis music school in Waterloo.
Anthony Bastos is currently perfecting himself with Axel Everaert, at Maastricht Conservatorium, in particular to refine his mastery and knowledge of the Italian repertoire of the 18th and 19th centuries and of the French romantic repertoire, which are so dear to his heart.
His next performances include in February 2025 the role of Orbazzano in Rossini's Tancredi, at the Asta Theater in Beek, under conductor Achille Lampo and the direction of Roberta Faroldi. Lovers of Lied and French mélodies will also be able to find him in March 2025 at the Night of Classical Music festival at Maastricht Conservatorium, for a program including, among others, "La Bonne Chanson" by Fauré, as well as a shortened version of Schubert's "Die Schöne Müllerin".
